“Over-Dimensional Haulage” Specialists T.J. Clark Relish Their New Cat® CT 630
When Tom and Mick Clark purchased a new Cat® CT 630 for their 80-year-old family haulage business, the decision wasn’t taken lightly.
Caterpillar has a long history with T.J. Clark & Sons Pty Ltd in Holroyd, NSW. The haulage firm specializes in transporting heavy equipment, much of it Cat equipment.
“We transported the first Cat equipment in New South Wales,” Tom recalls. “And the firm has always made sure to use Cat engines whenever possible.”
T.J. Clark & Sons is widely known for transporting what they refer to as “over-dimensional haulage” – everything from mining equipment to shipping containers to building and construction equipment.
Over the years, the challenge of moving large Cat machines has tested the firm’s ingenuity. For example, there was the time when the sheer size of a Cat dump truck exceeded the width of a key local bridge. Clark ended up taking the long way around, via a country road and a barge shipment. Yet they’ve always found a way to deliver.
So when the first-ever Cat on-highway trucks became available, Tom could see the advantages.
“Being able to deliver Cat equipment using a Cat truck speaks well of both the equipment and the truck,” Tom says. “When you take a new machine to a council yard, it looks quite special.”
The new vehicle is likely to impress all categories of client, from major contractors to freight forwarders. Tom and Mick anticipate using the Cat® CT 630 to move equipment up to and including the Cat® D9 heavy tractor, 45 tonne excavators, and graders and wheel loaders up to the size of a Cat® 980.
“We are excited to be able to deliver this powerful new Cat® CT630 truck to Tom and Mick Clark,” says Matthew Robertson, who serves as Sales Manager at Cat dealer Westrac NSW. “And we’re looking forward to seeing that first piece of Cat equipment being delivered on the first-ever Cat on-road vehicle.”
Robert Toose, Caterpillar Dealer Operations Manager for Australia, reinforces Cat dealers’ readiness to service Cat truck customers.
“Cat dealers spanning more than 50 locations across Australia have strong staffs of technicians with extensive experience in servicing heavy duty trucks,” Toose confirms. “They offer consistent service and support that cannot be replicated by the independent operators who service most truck brands.”
The new Cat® CT610 and Cat® CT630, which are both conventional prime movers, have been expressly designed and manufactured for Australian customers.
“These vehicles have been built to suit the needs of the Australian market and the demands of its grueling terrain,” said Jeff Tyzack, General Manager, Sales and Marketing for Cat Trucks Australia. “The enthusiastic reaction of customers like T.J. Clark & Sons demonstrates the power of the Cat brand and of this unique on-road value proposition.”
